NEW! An App to Support Women Experiencing Partner Violence


Sometimes, the person we trust turns out not to be trustworthy. Often, until we are in the situation ourselves or are taught by someone else, we don’t recognize the signs of an unhealthy relationship or a toxic partner. For many reasons, when we’re in an unsafe situation, it can be tough to know what to do, or it can feel difficult to leave. Thankfully Western University, the University of British Columbia and the University of New Brunswick partnered together to create an app for women experiencing partner violence that helps to recognize the signs of abuse and what different forms of abuse can look and feel like. 

The app provides activities, information and resources on topics of safety, basic needs, health and well-being, connecting safely, claiming your power and family. Through the app, women are given information to help them reflect on their relationship, identify abuse, learn how to seek help and access advice and direction after leaving the relationship.

The app is entirely free and confidential, and after making a private account, there are options while on the app and while signing in to quickly exit to a weather network page to disguise the use of the app in case a partner is around. With bilingual options and a prompt to choose your province, the app shows resources near you to connect with outside help. 

If you feel you are being mistreated by a partner, feel afraid or unsafe in your relationship or notice your partner holding power or control over you, downloading this app may provide you with a clearer idea of what’s going on and what to do about it. The app is available for download for free on the Apple and Android app stores and found on their website, ihealapp.ca.
